Human-in-the-Loop AI

Definition

Human-in-the-loop AI is a design pattern where humans review, approve, correct, or guide AI actions at key points.

Human-in-the-loop design keeps agents useful without letting them run wild. The system can automate low-risk work while requiring human approval for sensitive actions, customer-facing outputs, financial changes, legal language, or irreversible decisions.

For SMBs, this is the practical path. You do not need to choose between manual work and full autonomy. You can build workflows where the agent does 80 percent of the preparation and the human handles the judgment call. That is often where the ROI shows up fastest.
