Generative Engine Optimization
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of optimizing a brand’s information and content so generative AI systems can retrieve it, verify it, and cite it when producing answers. GEO emphasizes machine-readable clarity: strong entity identity, entity-linked structured data (JSON-LD), knowledge graph alignment, and answer-first content that’s easy to quote accurately.
In industry usage, GEO often overlaps with AEO, AI Search Optimization (ASO), and Artificial Intelligence Optimization (AIO). In this lexicon, AI Search is the umbrella term; GEO is one naming convention for the same underlying optimization goal: being the named, citable recommendation inside AI-generated answers.
